SPANISH MINISTRIES
In 2005, the Bureau of Justice Statistics declared that 20% of the inmate
population in the U.S. was Hispanic. That means that 27,900 males and 15,900 females are currently serving time in
the U. S. prison system.
The Saint’s Spanish Ministries seeks to reach this people group with the Gospel of Jesus
Christ in their native language. Here are some of the ways we minister to Hispanics in prison.
ON GAME DAYS:
w Providing literature entirely in Spanish.
w Translating or preaching in Spanish as needed.
w Evangelism to a small group or one-on-one.
AFTER THE GAMES:
w Providing Bible Courses and discipleship entirely in Spanish
w Pen-Pal program
w Birthday Cards
BIRTHDAY CARD MINISTRY
One of the ministries that seems simple, but is one of our most effective is
sending birthday cards. Each prisoner receives a hand-signed birthday card on his or her birthday. My wife Debby along with a group of women each month hand-signs birthday cards
of dozens of Hispanic inmates whose birthdays are coming up.
|
We continually receive letters from inmates thanking us for remembering their
birthday, even when family members didn’t. It makes them realize that God still loves them and that they are not forgotten.
SOCCER TEAM
Soccer is the most popular sport worldwide. In Spanish-speaking countries the first birthday gift for many children is a
soccer ball. Our Soccer team is a great tool to reach the Hispanics in prison, especially
during the autumn and winter months when The Saints Softball teams are not
playing.
