Statistically, 80% of all inmates will not go to a formal religious program or visit the chapel. If the inmate populations won’t come to the Gospel, then we’ll take the Gospel to them……in the recreation yard!
Sports are common to all of us. They dominate the landscape at every level and whether you love sports or wish you could avoid them, it is impossible to ignore their place in American culture. Within the prison system, sports are a large part of recreation programs as well. The Saints Prison Ministry reaches inmates with the Gospel by taking full athletic teams – men’s softball, basketball and soccer, as well as women’s softball in the Southeast – into prisons and competing directly with the inmate all-star teams.
Combining this love for sports with our love for Jesus, every man or woman in a Saints uniform becomes a missionary-athlete. Our teams are highly effective in earning the respect of the inmates first through a competitive game, then delivering the message of love, hope, and freedom found only in Jesus Christ right there on the court, pitch, or ballfield!
Whether ministering and playing seasonally in those sports or participating in a short-term mission trip for 4-5 days, every man or woman who joins the Saints Prison Ministry finds themselves used by God in ways they never thought possible.
